In Africa I was inspired by the people and their environment, the colourful kangas and the light at magic hour. Similar to the Pop Art movement of the 1950s in Europe, the hand written sign-writing for all advertisements such as Coca Cola and Vodacom dominate the environment (by being painted on the mud huts) adding colour and vibrancy to the city of Mwanza. Travelling to Kigoma, the jungle, the Sererngeti and the rainforests at Kilimanjaro has provided new subject matter for the mixed media painting techniques.
